Doris May (Pilgrim) Hassler, 87, of Mechanicsburg , and formerly of Chambersburg , died at Messiah Village on Saturday, September 21, 2013. She was born in Chambersburg, on Saturday, February 13, 1926, daughter of the late Clarence Eber Pilgrim and Anna Alice (Hunsecker) Pilgrim. Doris was the wife of Robert Eugene Hassler whom she married on December 21, 1946.
Doris’s survivors include her loving husband of 66 years, Robert Hassler; sons, Robert Barry Hassler of Lansdale, Jeffrey Dean Hassler of Alaska and several nieces and nephews. Among those preceding Doris in death are her siblings, Beatrice Burstone and Clarence E. Pilgrim, Jr.
Doris graduated from Chambersburg High School as part of the class of 1944. She loved to knit, crochet, and play the piano and French horn. Raising her children and taking care of her home and family was the most important part of Doris’ life.
All are welcome to join Doris’s family at her visitation on Thursday, September 26, 2013, from 9:15 to 9:45 at Myers–Buhrig Funeral Home and Crematory , 37 East Main Street, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055, followed by her graveside service at 11:15 at Lincoln Cemetery , Chambersburg with Pastor Debby Bentch officiating. Honored to be pall bearers are Robert Hassler, Jeffrey Hassler, Matthew Babb, Robbin Babb, Ralph Lader, and Robert Welker.
