Doris Ann (Newkam) Nesmith

Doris Ann (Newkam) Nesmith, age 97, of Camp Hill, died on Saturday, November 9, 2024. Doris was born on Friday, June 10, 1927, in Steelton to the late Phillip Newkam and Sarah (Bowers) Newkam. In addition to her parents, Doris is preceded in death by her six siblings: Marie Krumsick, Sarah Powers, Geneva Newkam, Phillip Newkam, Carl Newkam, Jerome Newkam, and James Newkam.

Doris’s survivors include her two sisters: Mabel Elizabeth Beamer of Harrisburg, JoAnn Mickle and husband, William of Harrisburg; her niece Evonne Garner of Mechanicsburg who so lovingly cared for Doris, and several nieces and nephews.

Doris graduated from Steelton High School as part of the class of 1945. She retired from the Federal Government in 1983 after many years of service working in Data Processing. Doris was a deeply religious individual who attended Landmark Baptist Church. She had a passion for swimming at the YMCA and was an avid outdoorswoman with a keen interest in gardening. Doris enjoyed playing strategic games like Chinese checkers and Scrabble. Family was very important to her, and she valued spending time with them. She will be greatly missed by all those fortunate to have been in her life. 

A private graveside service will be held at Mechanicsburg Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
