Dorothy Miriam (Anderson) Elder, age 86, of Dillsburg, and formerly of Mechanicsburg, passed at home with her loving family by her side on Tuesday, May 15, 2018. Dorothy was born on Tuesday, January 12, 1932 in York to the late Francis Anderson and Anna (Myers) Anderson. Dorothy was the widower of John Shear Elder who died on November 9, 1995. In addition to her parents and husband, Dorothy is preceded in death by her son, Samuel Spungin; her two brothers: Robert Anderson and Ronald Anderson; and her sister, Madelin Noriconk.
Dorothy’s survivors include her daughter, Deborah Klabe and her former spouse, Raymond, and their son, Christopher; her son, Keith Elder and his wife, Dawna, and their children: Karissa, Alicia, and Megan; her five siblings: Arthur Anderson, Richard Anderson, Vance Anderson, Arlene Newmyer, and Audrey Houser; and her beloved bichon frise, Sasha.
Dorothy retired from JCPenney in Harrisburg as an associate in the furniture department. She enjoyed needle point and crochet and both flower and vegetable gardening. Dorothy loved to travel and had an especially memorable trip to Europe. The seashore was a favorite of Dorothy’s as she loved the beach. Dorothy adored her grandchildren and was thrilled to attend so many of their sporting events and concerts. She was close to her two children who she loved deeply. Family gatherings were always so special and enjoyable for Dorothy. She was a strong willed, well organized, take charge woman who was independent enough to build two houses and to live alone for many years. Her sense of humor brightened the lives of those around her and those around her always felt loved and secure. Dorothy will be deeply missed.
All are welcome to join Dorothy’s family at her viewing on Tuesday, May 22, 2018, from 9:30 a.m. until time of service at 10:15 a.m. at Myers - Buhrig Funeral Home and Crematory, 37 East Main Street, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055; with Celebrant George A. Spangler officiating. Dorothy’s family invites everyone to join them for a time of food and fellowship at the Café next to Myers – Buhrig immediately following the service. Burial will begin at 1:30 p.m. at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery in Annville.
