Dorothy (Gressang) Fretz
A Woman of Deep Faith -
Dorothy (Gressang) Fretz, age 98, of Mechanicsburg, and formerly of Lakeville, PA, Fort Washington, PA, and West Palm Beach, FL, went to be home with Jesus on Monday, February 6, 2017. Dorothy was born on Wednesday, February 13, 1918 in Ashland, PA, to the late Harry Gressang and Rose (Siglinger) Gressang. Dorothy was the widow of Quentin “Fritz” L. Fretz, whom she married on July 7, 1945, and who died on May 24, 2015. In addition to her parents and husband, Dorothy is preceded in death by her sister, Ethel Grace Blakley.
Dorothy’s survivors include her two children: Sandra “Sandie” L. Ressler and her husband, William, of Dillsburg, Kennth “Kenny” L. Fretz and his wife, Kathy, of Delaware; her five grandchildren; and her five great-grandchildren.
Dorothy was an active and faithful member of the Lutheran denomination and a follower of the teachings of Jesus Christ. She was the superintendent of Sunday School for over 20 years in Ambler, PA. Dorothy worked as a hairdresser for many years before becoming a bus driver for special education students which she loved. She was musically talented and played the accordion, piano, guitar, and omnichord. Dorothy loved leading and participating in hymn sings with her husband for over 25 years. She also yodeled and sang and was broadcast on the radio in her 20s. She loved to work in her vegetable garden, which was extremely large. Dorothy enjoyed swimming and taking naps in the sun on the boat with her family at the lake house. She also taught some of her family how to knit and sew. She was always thinking of others and would always have dessert ready for family and guests that came to visit. Dorothy always had a smile for everyone until the end and she will be missed dearly by all who were touched by her kindness.
All are welcome to join Dorothy’s family at her gathering of family and friends on Monday, February 13, 2017, from 11:30 a.m. until time of service at 12:00 p.m. at Myers - Buhrig Funeral Home and Crematory, 37 East Main Street, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055; with Celebrant George Spangler officiating. Private burial will take place in Whitemarsh Memorial Park in Ambler, PA, at the convenience of the family.
In memory of Dorothy’s life and in keeping with her caring nature, the family asks that everyone participate in a random act of kindness for someone else.
