Dorothy “Dottie” Marie (Biesecker) Holtry
Really a Good Wife -
Dorothy “Dottie” Marie (Biesecker) Holtry, age 77, of Mechanicsburg, and formerly of New Oxford, died unexpectedly at home in her sleep with her husband by her side on Tuesday, January 2, 2018. Dottie was born on Thursday, September 19, 1940 in Biglerville to the late Harry Luther Biesecker and Sarah Jane (Ebbert) Biesecker. In addition to her parents, Dottie is preceded in death by her infant daughters, Rebecca and Susan.
Dottie’s survivors include her adoring husband of 58 years, John Ervin Holtry; her three daughters: Vickie Fluharty and her husband, David, of Indiana, PA, Patti Miller and her husband, Richard, of Lebanon, PA, Wendy Dunton and her husband, Luke, of Palmyra, VA; her five grandchildren: David Fluharty II, Katerina Fluharty, Jonathan Fluharty, Elizabeth Miller, Alexander Miller; her three sisters: Anna Failor, Helen Wenrich, Harriet Decker; and several nieces and nephews.
Dottie graduated from New Oxford High School as part of the class of 1957. For over 24 years she was a devoted farmer’s wife and also worked at Musselman’s in Biglerville, Bell Telephone, and Morefield Communications in Camp Hill from which she retired after 27 years of service. Dottie was a member of the Adams/Cumberland County Senior Extension, she supported the Cumberland County 4-H Clubs, was the Master of Special Chicken BBQ Sauce, a famous pie maker extraordinaire, and a dear friend to all. She was an avid traveler who visited Hawaii, Alaska, most of the lower 48 States, Costa Rica, Panama, Canada, Aruba, and the Bahamas. She enjoyed square dancing which is where she met her husband, John, and made quite an impression because John still remembers what she was wearing. He lovingly proclaims that Dottie was a “really a good wife” and that their daughters were her pride and joy. She will be missed.
All are welcome to join Dottie’s family at her viewing on Friday, January 5, 2018, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. and on Saturday, January 6, 2018, from 10:00 a.m. until time of service at 11:00 a.m. at the Myers - Buhrig Funeral Home and Crematory, 37 East Main Street, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055; with Celebrant George A. Spangler officiating. Dottie’s family invites those present to join them for a time of food and fellowship at the café next to Myers – Buhrig immediately following the service. Burial will follow the reception in Mohlers Church Cemetery in Mechanicsburg.
