An Infectious Laugh -

Douglas “Doug” David Lowe, age 69, of Harrisburg, and formerly of Mechanicsburg, peacefully went home to his Lord on Saturday, April 24, 2021.  Doug was born on Friday, March 14, 1952, in Mechanicsburg to the late Frank Lowe and Helen L. (Rider) Lowe.  In addition to his parents, Doug is preceded in death by his brother, Michael L. Lowe.

Doug’s survivors include his life partner, Deb O’Brien; his son, James “Jimmy” Lowe and wife, Deanna, of Dillsburg; his two grandchildren: Kayla Karim and husband, Daryo, of Dillsburg, Kendyl Morse of Mifflintown; his three great-grandchildren: Dylan, Peyton, Sophia; his four siblings: James “Jim” Lowe of Dillsburg, Stephen “Steve” Lowe of Mechanicsburg, Ronald “Ron” Lowe of Mechanicsburg and his son, James Gale and wife, Anna, of Charlotte, NC, Diane Hepler and husband, Mike, of Boiling Springs and daughter, Ashley, of California; and his beloved canine companion, Maggie.

Doug graduated from Mechanicsburg High School as part of the class of 1970.  He retired from PPG Industries in Mount Holly Springs, after 46 years of service as an industrial worker.  Doug attended Harrisburg First Assembly of God and he was a member of the American Legion Post 26 in Dillsburg.  He was a huge racing fan, both of NASCAR and the sprint cars.  Undoubtedly, every race season Doug could be found at both Williams Grove and Port Royal Speedways.  He never missed a NASCAR race and the chance to cheer on his favorite driver, first Dale Earnhardt, Sr. then most recently, Kyle Larson.  Doug was also a fan of the Baltimore Ravens, Hershey Bears, and Harrisburg Senators.

He just loved being outside so naturally Doug was a hunter.  He was also passionate about classic muscle cars and even helped his son build his first car - a 1965 Chevrolet Impala.  Doug truly knew what he was doing when working on cars and could tune one just by listening to it.  There was one thing about Doug that everyone he met could agree on, and that was how infectious his laugh was.  Doug accepted and loved his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, who now holds him in His loving arms.

All are welcome to join Doug’s family at his in-person gathering of family and friends on Saturday, May 8, 2021, from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at Buhrig Funeral Home & Crematory, 37 East Main Street, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055; and for his virtual gathering of family and friends and service via video chat or telephone beginning at 11:30 a.m; with Reverend George A. Spangler officiating.  Doug’s family invites everyone to join them for a time of food and fellowship at Buhrig’s Gathering Place (next to the funeral home), immediately following the service.  Over 100 parking spaces are available; just look for the “Buhrig” parking signs in all of the parking lots.  Cremation was private.
