Edgar “Ed” Emory Miller, Jr.
A Real Character -
Edgar “Ed” Emory Miller, Jr., age 64, of Mechanicsburg, and formerly of Newport, was embraced by Jesus in Heaven while being comforted by his loving family on Tuesday, October 24, 2017. Ed was born on Monday, December 1, 1952 in Harrisburg to Dorothy Jane (Weimer) Miller and the late Edgar Emory Miller, Sr.
Ed’s survivors include his wife of 35 years, Tamera “Tammy” Lynn (Woods) Miller; his three children: Todd Dwayne Miller of Mechanicsburg, PA, Amanda Ruth Weaver and her husband, Gage, of Fort Riley, KS, April Marie Miller of Mechanicsburg, PA; his mother, Dorothy Jane Miller of Newport, PA; his three siblings: David “Dave” Lee Miller and his wife, Janice, of Newport, PA, Steven “Steve” Ray Miller and his wife, Cynthia, of Mechanicsburg, PA, Deborah “Deb” Marie Wetzel and her husband, Kenneth, of Newport, PA; and several nieces and nephews.
Ed graduated from Newport High School as part of the class of 1971. He proudly served in the United States Army for 15 years and Navy for 4 years. Ed retired from the Naval Support Activity in Mechanicsburg, after 24 years of service working as a base police lieutenant. He was a former member of the Mechanicsburg Brethren in Christ Church. Ed was quite the trickster and joker. He was known to make-up stories that were incredibly believable and always find an opportunity to play a trick on someone. Ed didn’t like snakes and his kids got him back with a taste of his own medicine. He was a real character who was quiet and reserved at first but became great fun once he came out of his shell. Ed loved to laugh and needle his brother, Dave, about being a Marine. He knew he couldn’t heckle Dave too much because he made Ed his favorite apple pies of all time. Ed was quite the wrestling and football athlete. He continued his love of the two sports by cheering on the Indianapolis Colts, Penn State Nittany Lions, and Newport Buffalos. Ed also loved Snoopy, indulging in Midnight Milky Ways, and the color blue, which was evident in his favorite teams – all blue and white.
