Loving and Dedicated -

Edith M. Sones, 90, of Mechanicsburg, and formerly of Port Matilda, died at home on Friday, March 2, 2018.  Edith was born on Friday, January 6, 1928 in Port Matilda to the late George Stiver and Hazel I. (Woodring) Stiver.  Edith was the widow of Earl R. Sones, whom she married on June 11, 1955 at the Tyrone Free Methodist Church, and who died on July 26, 2009.  In addition to her parents and husband, Edith is preceded in death by her granddaughter, Andrea Sones.

Edith’s survivors include her two sons: Bill Sones and his wife, Sharon, of Lewisberry, Al Sones and his wife, Eileen, of Mechanicsburg; her four grandchildren: Matthew Sones and his wife, Belinda, of Rochester, NY, Kristin Milks and her husband, Bradley, of Mooresville, NC, Kaitlin Brodd and her husband, Scott, of Beach Lake, Nicole Sones of Carlisle; her ten great-grandchildren: Liam, Violet, and Elise Sones, Adalynn Elliah, Ianna, and Samuel Milks, Hadlee, Joelle, and Isaac Brodd; and her sister, Connie Bailey and her husband, Gary, of Port Matilda.

Edith graduated from Port Matilda High School.  She served as a pastor’s wife at her husband’s side at Morningstar Fellowship in Osceola Mills, State College Free Methodist Church, Brookside Wesleyan Church in Julian, where Earl was the Music Minister, and Tyrone Free Methodist Church, where Earl was an interim pastor.  She was beloved as the Band Director’s wife when Earl taught at Bald Eagle Area High School.  Edith also worked at Thalhimers Department Store as a clerk, the State House Restaurant as a waitress, Tyrone Hospital as a Nurse’s Aide, Pennsylvania State University in housing, and at Port Matilda Elementary School as a cook.

Edith was a loving and dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.  She treasured her sons’ wives as daughters, enjoyed her grandchildren and their spouses, and celebrated her great-grandchildren.  Edith was a committed follower of Jesus, loved the Scriptures, and prayed for her loved ones whose names she had written on her prayer list.

All are welcome to join Edith’s family at her viewing on Thursday, March 8, 2018, at 10:00 a.m. and for her service at 11:00 a.m. at Good News Free Methodist Church, 124 State Road, Mechanicsburg, PA 17050; with her son, Pastor Al Sones officiating.  Edith’s family invites everyone to join them for a time of food and fellowship at her church following the service.  Graveside services at Williams Cemetery in Martha Furnace will be held at a later date.
