Edith “Becky” Mixon (Brown) Scruggs, age 78, of Mechanicsburg, PA, and formerly of Lancaster, PA, and Maryland, passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 5, 2017. Becky was born on Saturday, November 19, 1938 in Baton Rouge, LA to the late James L. Mixon and Rebecca (Toomey) Mixon. Becky was the widow of Clarence Houston Scruggs, Jr., whom she married on December 20, 1980, and who died on July 14, 2013. In addition to her parents and husband, Becky is preceded in death by her five siblings: Roberta Shaffett, James Mixon, Josie Gleason, Lindy Mixon, William Mixon; her aunt and uncle who raised her: Edythe and Stewart Brown; and her former spouse, Leroy R. Hibner.
Becky’s survivors include her local nieces and nephews: James “Jim” Mixon and his wife, Lorraine Bauman, John Mixon and his wife, Michelle, Jacob “Jack” Mixon and his wife, Patricia, Katharina “Kathie” Rebecca Reed and her love, Jayme, Robert “Robbie” Mixon and his wife, Michele, Karla Mixon and her love, Frank, Cyndy Branton and her husband, David, Marty Richard and her husband, Cliff, and Kathy Shaffett; her two grandchildren: Kelly Procopio and her husband, Joseph, Trevor Meade and his wife, Stacy, and their daughters: Ashley and Katie; and numerous more nieces and nephews as well as great and great-great nieces and nephews.
Becky graduated from William Penn Senior High School as part of the class of 1956 and from Sherwood Music School in Chicago, IL. She worked as a real estate agent in Ocean City for nearly 20 years, this was a job that Becky really enjoyed. She and her husband, Clarence, traveled extensively together for many years. Becky loved going to Ocean City and the beach. The two were also Washington Redskins fans and they would follow their favorite team from game to game. Becky was a talented pianist who always won everyone over with her sweet southern charm. She had an especially big heart that was able to be seen in Becky’s love of animals, particularly for dogs and cats.
All are welcome to join Becky’s family at her viewing on Friday, November 10, 2017, from 10:00 a.m. until casket closing ceremony at 10:45 a.m. and then service at 11:00 a.m. at Myers - Buhrig Funeral Home and Crematory, 37 East Main Street, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055; with Chaplain Keith Searfoss officiating. Becky’s family invites everyone to join them for a time of food and fellowship at the café next to Myers - Buhrig immediately following the service. Burial will be at 2:30 p.m. in Rosedale Cemetery in Martinsburg, WV.
