Edward “Army” Stewart Armstrong, III, 70, of Mechanicsburg , died at Holy Spirit Hospital on Thursday, December 6, 2012.  He was born in Harrisburg, on Monday, June 8, 1942, son of the late Edward Stewart Armstrong, Jr. and Dorothy Mae (Clelan) Armstrong.  Ed was the widower of Patricia Ann (Benner) Armstrong who died on August 1, 2000.

Ed graduated from Mechanicsburg High School as part of the class of 1960.  He retired from the Navy Depot in Mechanicsburg, in December 2001 after 23 years of service.  Ed was a proud Army Veteran who served from 1961 to 1964 with the 82 nd Airborne.  He was a member of the Mechanicsburg Club where he served as a past secretary, the Elks and the American Legion Post 109 in Mechanicsburg.  Ed was a fun loving guy who always had a joke or two.

Ed’s survivors include his four sisters and one brother, Frances “Fran” Arlene Peebles, Helen “Cookie” Metallo and her husband Joe, Dorothy Erickson, Tammy Magaro and Steve Turner all of whom are from Mechanicsburg.  Among those preceding Ed in death are his three brothers, George Armstrong, Barry Armstrong and Jesse Turner.

All are welcome to join Ed’s family at his viewing on Wednesday, December 12, 2012, from 9:00 until time of his service at 10:30 Myers–Buhrig Funeral Home and Crematory , 37 East Main Street, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055, with Celebrant Alan Echard officiating.  Burial will immediately follow in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery in Annville, where military honors will be presented and where Ed will be reunited with his wife, Patricia, and where they will be buried together.
