Edward P. Nerino
Edward P. Nerino, 71, of Mechanicsburg, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 18, 2020, at Messiah Lifeways at the Messiah Village.
Edward was born Oct. 29, 1949, in Pen Argyl, a son of the late Edward P. Sr. and Mary (Romano) Nerino. He and his beloved wife, the former Beth Snook, were married for 46 years.
He graduated of Pius X High of Bangor in 1967, in 1971 from St. Leo College in Florida with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Spanish, and in 1973 received a master's degree from Kutztown in guidance and counseling. Edward began his career as a guidance counselor for SUN Area Vocational Technical School in New Berlin. Later he became guidance director for various Catholic high schools throughout the state. In 1983 he accepted a position with the Selinsgrove Center as a Behavioral Psychologist and concluded his career with the Department of Public Welfare in Harrisburg as an Inspector for Group Homes and Day Care Centers. Over the years, you could catch Ed volunteering his time to coach different sports, officiate or just be a fan. Many remember him as an active member of his community, traveling or just working in his garden.
Edward was a former member of the Upper Dauphin Area Lions and Rotary clubs, a long-standing member of the Lykens Council of the Knights of Columbus, and a member of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church, Mechanicsburg.
In addition to his wife Beth, he is survived by a son, E. Anthony; a daughter, Marisa Katherine (Nerino) McClellan; a son-in-law, Justin McClellan; five grandchildren; Ryan, Joseph and Nicholas Nerino and Dylan and Carter McClellan.
He was predeceased by two sisters, Connie Confalone and Pauline Schmidt.
All are welcome to join Ed’s family at gathering of family and friends on Saturday, September 4, 2021, at 9:00 a.m. with a Mass of Christian Burial beginning at 10:00 a.m. all at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, 310 Hertzler Drive, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055; with Father Samuel Dubois celebrating. A graveside service will immediately follow Mass in Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Mechanicsburg. Friends and family are invited for a time of food and fellowship at Buhrig’s Gathering Place, 25 East Main Street, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055, (717) 766-3421 (next to Buhrig Funeral Home & Crematory), immediately following the graveside service. Over 100 parking spaces are available; just look for the “Buhrig” parking signs in all of our parking lots. Cremation was private.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be offered in Edward's name to either St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church, 310 Hertzler Road, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055 or to Messiah Lifeways at Messiah Village, 100 Mt. Allen Dr., Mechanicsburg PA 17055 or to a charity of the donor's choice.
