A Loving Mother, Grandmother, & Great Grandmother -
Elizabeth “Betty” “BK” Jane (Cornell) Simma Kvasny, age 93, of Mechanicsburg, and formerly of Binghamton, NY, passed away peacefully at the home of her daughter and son-in-law on Tuesday, June 27, 2017. Betty was born on Wednesday, May 21, 1924 in Binghamton, NY to the late Ervin R. Cornell and Iva Arvilla (Everett) Cornell. Betty was the widow of John Joseph Simma, who died on February 12, 1957 and of Joseph Kvasny who died in 1998. In addition to her parents and husbands, Betty is preceded in death by her son, Roger John Simma; her brother, Roger Cornell; and her two sisters: Dorothy Boyle and Ethel Holbert.
Betty’s survivors include her two daughters: Betty Ann Harris and her husband, Don, of Mechanicsburg; Dorothy Lee Baker of Deltona, FL; her four grandchildren: Ann Marie, Steven Harris, Daniel Colpitts, Donna Nickerson; her five great grandchildren: Jackson, Jacob, Samuel, Sarah, Taylor; and several nieces and nephews.
Betty retired from Binghamton General Hospital in New York, after 20 years of service working as a nurse’s aide in the nursery. She touched many lives during her working career and Betty absolutely loved her time spent in the nursery caring for newborns. She was a lifelong member of the Catholic faith. Betty was a loving mother, grandmother, and great grandmother; they will all miss her dearly.
Betty’s family will be remembering her life privately. Scattering in St. Peter Lutheran Church Memorial Garden in Mechanicsburg will be at the family’s convenience. Cremation was private.
