Elizabeth “Betty” Grace (Starr) Spahr
Loved and Adored Family -
Elizabeth “Betty” Grace (Starr) Spahr, age 80, of Mechanicsburg, and formerly of Shiremanstown, passed away peacefully at home while surrounded by her loving family on Friday, May 3, 2019. Betty was born on Thursday, October 13, 1938 in Carlisle, PA to the late Maurice Everett Starr and Gayle Irene (Dick) Starr. Betty was the widow of Richard “Dick” Clayton Spahr, Sr., whom she married in September 1956, and who died in January 1984. In addition to her parents and husband, Betty is preceded in death by her son, Richard “Rick” Clayton Spahr, Jr., and her brother, Richard “Rick” Maurice Starr.
Betty’s survivors include her two children: Janice Spahr and Gregory A. Spahr and his wife, Roberta “Bobbi”; her four grandchildren: Randy, Heather, Daniel and Olivia; her five great-grandchildren: Dylan, Chase, Halai, Isabella and Zoey; her seven sisters: Lois, Dorothy, Nancy, Jeanette, Carol, Vicki and Terry; and her numerous nieces and nephews.
Betty retired from Bethany Village in Mechanicsburg, after more than 20 years of service working as a laundry aid. Remembered for working with her hands; Betty was forever sewing and knitting sweaters, caps, blankets, and quilts, as well as trying out new dessert recipes. Her desserts were those of legend! When Betty was not using her hands to create, she would have a book in them, as she was a voracious reader. She enjoyed traveling to places like Nova Scotia, Arizona, Alaska, as well as her cruises. Betty loved and adored her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and her family will miss her dearly.
All are welcome to join Betty’s family at her viewing on Thursday, May 9, 2019, from 10:30 a.m. until time of service at 11:30 a.m. at Buhrig Funeral Home and Crematory, 37 East Main Street, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055; with Celebrant George A.
