Ellen Jayne (Brazel) Martin, 87, of Mechanicsburg , and formerly of Pennsauken, NJ, died at Messiah Village on Wednesday, February 27, 2013. She was born in Woodlynne, NJ, on Saturday, January 30, 1926, daughter of the late Ferdinand John William Brazel and Jennie Inge (Benson) Brazel. Ellen was the widow of the late Frederic Earl Martin whom she married on November 8, 1948 and who died in August of 1998.
Ellen’s survivors include her two loving children, Barbara Barry and her husband Jack of Mechanicsburg, Kurt Martin of Boston, MA; her three grandchildren, Allison Schooley of VA, Brett Barry of MD, Victoria Martin of Shippensburg; and her two great granddaughters, Ashlyn and Taylor both of VA.
Ellen greatly enjoyed being a homemaker and always remained focused on her family and home. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Baking with her great grandchildren and gardening brought her joy and pride. Ellen loved the Jersey Shore Beaches . When Ellen was in her 70s she attended a Rod Stewart concert and loved every minute of the experience. She was a fan of modern music, especially Taylor Swift and Rod Stewart. Ellen’s church, St. Peter Lutheran Church in Mechanicsburg, held a special place in her heart and was where she enjoyed ushering and making quilts and Easter Eggs.
All are welcome to join Ellen’s family at her viewing on Monday, March 4, 2013, from 1:00 until time of service at 2:00 at Myers–Buhrig Funeral Home and Crematory , 37 East Main Street, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055, with Pastor Naomi Sease Carriker officiating. Burial will follow in Mechanicsburg Cemetery in Mechanicsburg. Honored to be pallbearers are: Brett Barry, Jack Barry, Robert MacArthur, Thomas O’Malley and William Schooley. Ellen’s family invites everyone to join them for a time of food and fellowship at her church following the burial.
