Elsie May (Parise) Newkam

Generous to a Fault -

Elsie May (Parise) Newkam, age 81, of Camp Hill, and formerly of Harrisburg, was escorted home by the angels with her daughter by her side on Friday, June 29, 2018.  Elsie was born on Friday, April 3, 1936 in Harrisburg to the late Frank Parise and Julia (Knoll) Parise.  In addition to her parents, Elsie is preceded in death by her brother, Frank Parise and her sister, Marie Derr.

Elsie’s survivors include her two children: Edward “Ed” Newkam and his wife, Ana, of Sante Fe, NM, Donna Bouali, of Camp Hill; her five grandchildren: Alicia Newkam, Ana Newkam, Christina Marie Ramos, Star Lynn Ramos, Kacie Newkam; her three great-grandchildren: Harmony, Selena, and Anthony; and her beloved parakeet, Chico.

Elsie had a strong faith and was a life-long Roman Catholic who had a special devotion to The Blessed Mother.  She was an outgoing person who was always happy and was known to be a real jokester.  A consummate flirt, Elsie loved being around people and they loved being around her.  She was generous to a fault.  Elsie’s deep love of all things Elvis lasted a lifetime.  Among her favorite places were Europe, New Mexico, the casino and Disneyland.  She was a huge fan of Dopey and collected hundreds of trinkets with his likeness.  She also collected angels.

More than anything, Elsie adored her grandchildren and great grandchildren who were the largest and most precious part of her life.  Her daughter-in-law recalls that for more than 37 years Elsie was always respectful and supportive and was the “perfect mother-in-law”.  She will be loved and remembered by her entire family and all those who were lucky enough to have known her.

All are welcome to join Elsie’s family at gathering of friends and family on Tuesday, July 3, 2018, from 11:30 a.m. until time of service at 12:30 p.m. at Myers - Buhrig Funeral Home and Crematory, 37 East Main Street, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055; with Chaplain Reverend William Chamberlin officiating.  Burial will follow in Holy Cross Cemetery in Harrisburg.
