Elsie (Vizenor) Rickards, age 82, of Mechanicsburg, peacefully went home to Heaven with her family by her side on Saturday, July 15, 2017. Elsie was born on Monday, October 29, 1934 in Minneapolis, MN to the late Lawrence Vizenor and Eleanor (Johnson) Vizenor. In addition to her parents, Elsie is preceded in death by her granddaughter, Olivia Cosset Price; her brother, Lawrence Vizenor; and her daughter-in-law, Julie (Buyer) Rickards.
Elsie’s survivors include her loving husband of 61 years, Col. Donald “Don” Rickards, Jr., Retired; her six children: Karen Shupe and her husband, George, of Mechanicsburg, PA, Linda Evans and her husband, Ken, of Shippensburg, PA, Susan Rickards of Mechanicsburg, PA, Laura Price and her husband, John, of Dillsburg, PA, Julie Linder and her husband, Ray, of Matthews, NC, James “Jim” Rickards of Lancaster, PA; her nine grandchildren; and her five great-grandchildren.
Elsie was a member of St. Katharine Drexel Catholic Church in Mechanicsburg since its founding in 1991. She loved flowers and enjoyed oil painting. Elsie was an amazing mother and homemaker as well as an exceptionally supportive wife. She was humble, generous, selfless, loving, and forever forgiving. Elsie always had a quick wit and constantly thought of others before herself. Her altruistic and gracious spirit will be missed and remembered.
Elsie's service will be private and at the convenience of the family with burial at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery. Honored to be pallbearers are Jack Linder, Nick Linder, Simon Price, Ben Rickards, Matthew Rickards, Jake Shupe, and Justin Shupe.
