Emily Lucille (Meldrum) Davis
Emily Lucille Meldrum Davis, 97 years old, passed from this world to her eternal rest on October 30, 2020 at Country Meadows Retirement Community in Mechanicsburg, PA.
Emily was born on December 28, 1922. She is the last of seven children born to Vernon and Margaret Meldrum of York, PA. Emily’s siblings preceding her in death: Thomas Meldrum, James Meldrum, Vernon Meldrum Jr., Maude Rudisill, Virginia Sheffer, and Charlotte Hueter.
Emily’s husband, Theodore “Ted” Richard Davis, preceded her in death in 2002. Ted was the one and only love of her life. The couple met while they were attending Dover High School where they both graduated. They married shortly after the end of World War II during which Ted served as Staff Sargent in the U.S. Army. Ted was honorably discharged.
Emily and Ted had three children together. Mellane Blevins, wife of Roy Blevins, of York, Paulette Matthews, wife of Russell Matthews, of Mechanicsburg, and Christine Stump, Deceased. They have three grandchildren – Leslie Metzger, Eric Blevins, and Emily Matthews, and one great grandchild, Lillian Horn.
Emily was dedicated to her family and spent many wonderful holidays, vacations, and Sunday dinners together with her family. She enjoyed camping with her husband in the summer and was known for her famous potato salad. She was a loyal member of St. Matthew Evangelical Lutheran Church in York, PA where she and Ted spent time helping others with the food bank, banquet activities, and clothing drives. Emily was an excellent cook and passed her talents on to her daughters. She loved arts and crafts, decorating her home with her creations in painting, sewing, and hand stitching. Emily will be dearly missed by all her family.
Emily’s family will be celebrating her life privately. Burial in Prospect Hill Cemetery in York will be at the family’s convenience.
In lieu of flowers, Emily would like to have contributions made to plant a tree in her memory. Contributions may also be made to the American Red Cross who Emily contributed to annually.
