Erma (Lingle) Carr

Erma (Lingle) Carr, age 92, of Carlisle, passed from this world to greet her Lord and Savior on Thursday, February 20, 2025 at Chapel Pointe Retirement Community. Erma was born on Wednesday, June 29, 1932, in Harrisburg to the late Russell Lingle and Emma (Aigler) Lingle. Erma was the widow of Robert “Thad” Thad Carr, whom she married on June 6, 1954, and who died on November 7, 2012. In addition to her parents and husband, Erma is preceded in death by sister, Dorothy “Dottie” Koser, and her brothers, Carl A. Lingle and Roy A. Lingle.

Erma’s survivors include her four children: Caryn J. Carr and her husband Donald E. Grell II of Carlisle, PA, Robert Thad Carr II and his wife Rebecca of Cape Coral, FL, Randal Allen Carr and his wife Susan of Rogersville, TN, Margaret C. Upton and her husband Clark of Hillsboro Oregon; her seven grandchildren: Jeff Carr and his wife Melissa, Jeniffer Bowen and her husband Robert, James Carr and his wife Rachel, Peter Carr and his wife Kat, Kevin Carr and his wife Theresa, Mar Upton, Ellen Upton; her eight great grandchildren: Andrew, Kyle, Brianna, Gabrielle, Grayson,  Roman, Eric, Bobby; her three great great grandchildren: Aspen, Lyken, Isaiah; her brother: Larry Lee Lingle and his wife Virginia; her sister in law: Jere Carr; and her nine nieces and nephews: Steve Koser and his wife Stacy, Linda Lingle, Diana Murphy, Elizabeth Jane Lingle, Roger Lingle and his wife Reneé, Rebecca Hoffmaster and her husband James, Carla Jane Blinkhorst and her husband Tracy, Tony Carr, and Robert M. Carr and his wife Teresa.

Erma graduated from Susquehanna Township High School as part of the class of 1950 and from Findley College in 1954, earning a Master’s degree in Education from Shippensburg University in 1973. She retired from teaching after 30 years of educating many students from Chambers Hill Elementary in Central Dauphin School District, Mt. Union School District, and West Branch Area School District. Erma was a 10-year member of Carlisle First Church of God. She liked to relax by sewing, cooking, and watching the Penn State game. With her Master’s in Education specializing in reading, Erma was also a reading enthusiast. She loved to travel and over her life she visited every state capital, and all of those except Hawaii were visited in a motor home. Erma enjoyed her time with friends at card club at their monthly meetups. She could also be regularly found playing bridge and pinochle with her family and friends at the Bent Creek Community Center. Erma will be dearly missed by those who were fortunate enough to have known her. 

Please join Erma's family for a time of remembrance on Friday, February 28, 2025. Visitation will be held at 10:00 am, with a service following at 11:00 am.  Visitation and worship services will be held at Carlisle First Church of God, 705 Glendale St, Carlisle, PA 17013, with Reverend Michael Poe officiating.  Erma's family invite all to join them for a fellowship meal provided by her church family immediately following the service.  Burial will follow the luncheon at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens in Harrisburg.
