Essie Mae Evans
Loved the Lord -
Essie Mae Evans, 76, of Mechanicsburg and formerly of Philadelphia went home to be with her Lord and her husband on Tuesday, August 16, 2011 after a stay in Holy Spirit Hospital. She was born on Sunday, March 10, 1935 in Philadelphia, the daughter of the late Sterling and Panthel (James) Carter and she was the widow of Stanley Hugh Evans, Sr. who she married on November 26, 1953.
Essie graduated from Halifax County Technical High School in Virginia. She became a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church in Mechanicsburg in 2003. She greatly enjoyed living in South Central Pennsylvania.
Essie had many loves in her life: the Phillies and Eagles, dancing and movies, gardening and planting, cooking and ice cream (all flavors) and mostly her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. She treasured her son, granddaughters and her close friends. Essie was a great cook and everyone who knew her knew it. She enjoyed her time as a school crossing guard.
Essie loved people, she was a people person. She was fiercely dedicated to her family and was a caring and loving caregiver, a super mother and grandmother and she loved her white lab, Phillie.
Essie is survived by her loving son: Stanley Hugh Evans Jr. of Mechanicsburg; her three granddaughters: Alicia “Ace” Carmelina Evans and her husband Sean Sarles of Landsdowne, Consuelo Panthel Evans of San Antonio, TX, Kenitha White; her closest friends: Augie and Ken Kozak and their daughter Jennie of Mechanicsburg; and several nieces and nephews.
