Esther Ruth (Pettigrew) Cheskey, age 90, of Mechanicsburg, was embraced by her family in Heaven on Tuesday, September 4, 2018.  Esther was born on Tuesday, November 22, 1927 in Indiana, PA to the late Harland Blair Glass and Iva Pettigrew.  Esther was the widow of Carl White Cheskey, whom she married on February 20, 1947, and who died on August 6, 1972.  In addition to her parents and husband, Esther is preceded in death by her two sons: George Paul Cheskey and Carl Alan Cheskey; and her sister, Dorothy Mitchell.

Esther’s survivors include her two children: Ronald “Ron” Cheskey and his wife, Linda, of Carlisle, Carol Showaker of Gardners; her eight grandchildren; her 12 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Esther graduated from Indiana High School.  She worked at Keefer’s Food Market in Mechanicsburg as a cashier.  Esther was a very independent woman who prided herself in leading that type of lifestyle.  She loved to cook and watch the nature go by outside of her home.  Esther was often found sitting on her porch watching the bunnies and hummingbirds.  The most important time spent was with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  She absolutely adored all of them and cherished the precious memories they all made with one another.

All are welcome to join Esther’s family at her viewing on Monday, September 10, 2018, from 11:00 a.m. until time of service at 12:00 p.m. at Myers - Buhrig Funeral Home and Crematory, 37 East Main Street, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055; with Celebrant George Spangler officiating.  Burial will follow in Rolling Green Cemetery in Camp Hill.  Honored to be pallbearers are: Randi Heishman, Zach Sharar, Colden Showaker, Shad Showaker, Anthony Smith, and Brandon Stanfield.
