Esther Mae (Zeiders) McCleary, 92, of Carlisle , and formerly of Dillsburg , died at Church of God Home in Carlisle on Thursday, September 20, 2012. She was born in Harrisburg, on Saturday, April 10, 1920, daughter of the late Walter Elmer Zeiders and Helen (Huber) Zeiders. Esther was the widow of Earl Emerson McCleary whom she married on May 29, 1947, and who died on August 12, 2004, after 57 years of happy marriage.
Esther graduated from John Harris High School as part of the class of 1938 and from Central Penn Business College in 1939. She retired from the Bell Telephone Engineering Department in April of 1985. Esther was a member of Calvary United Methodist Church in Dillsburg from 1986 until 2012. She enjoyed reading, cross word puzzles, crewel work, crocheting and bus trips with her husband. More than anything, Esther was an avid Penn State Football Fan , even knowing the score of the last game she heard as she moved toward heaven.
Esther’s survivors include her loving son, Donald E. McCleary and his wife Phyllis of Dillsburg and several nieces and nephews. Among those preceding Esther in death are her brothers, Elmer and David Zeiders; and her sister, Mary Emma Derr.
All are welcome to join Esther’s family at her viewing on Wednesday, September 26, 2012, from 1:00 until time of service at 1:45 at Myers–Buhrig Funeral Home and Crematory , 37 East Main Street, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055, with Reverend Bradley V. Moore officiating. Burial will immediately follow in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens in Harrisburg.
