Esther Elizabeth (Cassell) Prowell, 94, of Camp Hill died Saturday, September 10, 2011 at Holy Spirit Hospital in Camp Hill with her loving daughter, Joyce, close by. She was born on Tuesday, July 31, 1917 in Harrisburg the daughter of the late William E. and Effie (Zimmerman) Cassell. Esther was the widow of James F. Prowell Jr.
Esther graduated from John Harris High School in Harrisburg. She was a member of Penbrook Church of God and Fairview Church of God. She retired fom AMP Inc. with 25 years of service. Esther had a most beautiful smile which was paired with an incredibly witty sense of humor. She loved to cook and bake after which she watched everyone enjoy her apple pie and big/soft sugar cookies.
Esther is the beloved mother of three children, all of whom survive her: Carol J. Hoffman of Palmyra, Joyce E. Sweigard of Camp Hill, Joseph E. Hoffman of Vicksburg; two step-daughters: Shirley A. Sucic of New Cumberland, Yvonne Gettys of Camp Hill; a sister-in-law: Betty Cassell of Harrisburg; 9 grandchildren; 5 step-grandchildren; 26 great grandchildren; 2 great great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Esther was preceded in death by her husband: James F. Powell Jr; and a grandson: Brian.
All are welcome to join Esther’s family at her visitation on Wednesday, 9/14/2011, from 1:00 until time of service at 2:00 at Myers–Buhrig Funeral Home and Crematory , 37 East Main Street, Mechanicsburg, PA, 17055, with Reverend Dr. Charles Hostetter officiating. Burial will immediately follow in Mt. Zion’s Hill Top Cemetery at Cedar Point, Lewisberry. Esther’s family invites everyone to join them for a time of food and fellowship at her daughter’s home on Wednesday following the burial.
