Eugene “Gene” R. Rider, 87, of Mechanicsburg , died at the Hershey Medical Center with his loving wife by his side on Tuesday, August 6, 2013.  He was born in Hanover, on Sunday, February 7, 1926.  Gene was the husband of Nancy Irene (Yeatter) Hench Rider whom he married on May 28, 1994 and who survives him.  Gene’s survivors also include his son, Scott A. Rider and his partner Laurie of Carlisle; his four step-children, Ronetta Trimmer and her husband Steve of Mechanicsburg, David Hench and his wife Sue of Arizona, Doug Hench of Mechanicsburg, Daryl Hench and his wife Jennifer of Mechanicsburg; his 23 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; and his sister, Hattie Herman of Boiling Springs.  Among those preceding Gene in death are his first wife, Peggy J. (Stoner) Rider; his two sons, Terry Rider and Michael Rider and his grandson, Brandon Trimmer.

Gene graduated from Mechanicsburg High School .  He retired from Atlas Roofing Corporation in Camp Hill, after many years of faithful service.  Gene was a life-member of the American Legion Post #109 in Mechanicsburg, the Mechanicsburg Sportsman’s Club , and the Mechanicsburg Club .  He was a fan of: NASCAR, Penn State Football, watching golf, Coors Light, the casino, reading the printed newspaper, dogs, hunting and archery.  Gene was a “fantastic husband” and a “great father and grandfather.”  Such a kind and loving man will be greatly missed by his family and numerous friends.

All are welcome to join Gene’s family at his viewing on Monday, August 12, 2013 from 5:30 to 7:30 and on Tuesday, August 13, 2013 from 9:00 until time of service at 10:30 at Myers–Buhrig Funeral Home and Crematory , 37 East Main Street, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055, with Ashley M. Trimmer officiating.  Burial will follow in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery in Annville, PA, where military honors will be presented by the Veteran’s Honor Guard.  Honored to be pallbearers are: Koni Hench, Danielle Rider, Danny Rider, David Rider, Dustin Rider, Dylan Rider, Scott Rider and Stacy Rider.  Gene’s family invites everyone to join them for a time of food and fellowship at Lower Allen VFW Post 7530 , 4545 Westport Drive, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055, following the burial.
