Eugene “Jiggs” Kenneth DeMartyn

Eugene “Jiggs” Kenneth DeMartyn, 92, of New Cumberland and formerly of Tampa, FL passed into eternal rest on Thursday, September 29, 2011 at home and with his daughter by his side. He was born on Saturday, June 21, 1919 in Dillsburg the son of the late Joseph Clifford and Nella (Haverick) DeMartyn.
Jiggs retired from Buckeye PipeLine and retired to Tampa, FL. Jiggs operated, for over 40 years, a military memorabilia flea market stand which he founded at Silver Springs Flea Market. Everyone else’s trash was his treasure. He was a true “junk guy.”
Jiggs was a fiercely proud Master Sergeant with the US Army having reached that rank in less than two years. He fought in WWII in the European Theatre for over six (6) years and he served during the Korean War as a troop trainer in Kentucky. His military service was a hallmark of his life.
Jiggs is preceded in death by his first wife: Margherita Ciccarelli and he is survived by daughter: Carmela DeMartyn of New Cumberland; three grandchildren: Kim Broadley (Jim) of St. Louis MO, Erik Reisser of Mechanicsburg, Andrew Reisser of Baltimore MD; and seven great-grandchildren.
Jiggs is also preceded in death by his second wife: Dorothy Moreland DeMartyn and he is survived by daughters: Diane House of Chambersburg, Lauren Soto (Felipe) of Tampa FL; two granddaughters: Amy Crowder of Horn Lake MS, Valerie House of Mechanicsburg; and three great-grandchildren.
Jiggs is further preceded in death by his brothers: Joseph, Robert, George, Hen; his sisters: Florence, Mae, Helen. He is survived by his brother Paul DeMartyn of Dallas TX; his sister: Annie Boyd of New England; and several nieces and nephews.
All are welcome to join Jiggs’ family at his viewing on Sunday, October 2, 2011, from 4:00 until time of funeral service at 5:00 at Myers–Buhrig Funeral Home and Crematory , 37 East Main Street, Mechanicsburg, PA, 17055, (717) 766-3421, www.Myers-Buhrig.com with Chaplain Keith Searfoss from Odyssey HealthCare officiating. Jiggs’ family invites everyone to join them for a Gathering of Family and Friends and a time of food and fellowship on Sunday, October 2, 2011, at 6:00 at the Lawnton American Legion Post 998.
Jiggs’ burial is open to all on Monday, October 3, 2011, at 10:00 at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville where military honors will be presented
