Faynelle was born on Saturday, May 5, 1928, in Parkersburg, WV to the late Charles Andrew Newland and Lacy Nevada (Gardner) Newland. Faynelle was the widow of Warren D. Evans, whom she married on July 2, 1960, and who died on May 27, 2012. In addition to her parents and husband, Faynelle is preceded in death by two siblings: Bruce Newland, and Neva Ruth Hill; a step-mother Nell Newland and step-sister Helene M. Fredeking.

Faynelle’s survivors include her two children: Lacy Edith Evans and husband, Eric of Timonium, MD, John Charles Evans and wife, Leanne of North Richland Hills, TX; her four grandchildren: Hayley Nell Evans and husband, Cooper Cromley, Nicole Elizabeth Evans, Ian Wolfram Evans, and Arwen Genevieve Evans; her brother: Wayne I. Faynelle graduated from Charleston High School, WV as part of the class of 1946 and from University of Cincinnati in 1950 with a degree in Education. Her career encompassed roles as camp counselor and activities director at Camp Hunt in New York, teacher and counselor at Baltimore City schools in Maryland, Cambria County High School in Pennsylvania, and the Northeastern Institute for Christian Education in Pennsylvania. She was Director of Residence Halls at Towson State College, now Towson University in Maryland, from 1957-1960, where she met her husband Warren whom she married in 1960. She prioritized raising her family as a stay-at-home mother once her children were born. In the 1970s and 1980s she returned to work as a substitute teacher for Health and Physical Education at the Mechanicsburg Area School District. Faynelle was an active member of the Camp Hill Church of Christ since 1968. Faynelle appreciated exploring new destinations with her husband, family and friends, and participating in activities with women from her church community. She enjoyed cryptoquote and crossword puzzles, and watching game shows like Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune. Faynelle volunteered with the Harrisburg Multiple Sclerosis Society 150 Bike Tour for 20 years. In recent years she looked forward to monthly luncheons with her group, “The Lunch Bunch”. Attending her grandchildren’s lacrosse and football games were a source of enjoyment for her. Faynelle maintained memberships in Delta Zeta, Welsh Society of Greater Harrisburg, and the Pennsylvania Association of Retired State Employees. Always a teacher, in word or deed, she trusted in the Lord with all her heart. She will be greatly missed by all those fortunate to have been in her life.
