Unconditional Love for Family -
Fern Elizabeth (Giles) Schreffler, age 90, of Carlisle , and formerly of Mechanicsburg , died peacefully at the Sarah A. Todd Memorial Home on Monday, May 12, 2014. Fern was born on Saturday, September 22, 1923 in Columbia, PA, to the late David Henry Giles and Alda (Cockley) Giles. Fern was the widow Ray Henry Schreffler whom she married on December 31, 1946 who she met while roller skating and who died on December 28, 2002. She is also preceded in death by her son, Gregory Stephen Schreffler, and her four brothers and two sisters.
Fern’s survivors include her three sons, Duane Ray Schreffler of Mechanicsburg, David Charles Schreffler and his wife Linda of Carlisle, Darryl Jay Schreffler and his wife Marilyn of Mechanicsburg; her eight grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Fern was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in New Kingstown for over 45 years and a member of the Order of the Eastern Star . A fiercely family oriented person, she had an “unconditional love for her family”. Fern was a willing caretaker for many of her family members; her father, brother, sister, husband and son; as they faced the end of their lives. Her love and care even gave life and health to her house plants. Fern loved to crochet, which she did her entire life. She was a pianist and organist and enjoyed playing cards.
All are welcome to join Fern’s family at her viewing on Friday, May 16, 2014, from 10:00 a.m. until time of service at 11:00 a.m. at Myers - Buhrig Funeral Home and Crematory , 37 East Main Street, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055; with Reverend Eric L. Funk officiating. Burial will immediately follow in Rolling Green Memorial Park in Camp Hill.
