Flora Anne Fry

Flora Anne Fry, age 82, of Mechanicsburg, PA, and formerly of Washington D.C., passed away at Select Specialty Hospital in Camp Hill with her family by her side on Wednesday, November 1, 2017.  Flora was born on Tuesday, July 16, 1935 in Harrisburg, PA, to the late David S. Fry and Theresa F. (Fox) Fry.  In addition to her parents, Flora is preceded in death by her half-brother and her two half-sisters.

Flora’s survivors include her brother, Henry Fry and his wife, Betty, of Mechanicsburg; her three nephews: David Fry, Eric Hughes, and Gregory Hughes; her six cousins: Norman Fox, David Gerstman, Adele Jonas, Marilyn Luebeck, Judith Nelson, and Fran Smith; and her dear friend of many years, Maria Jenkins.

Flora graduated from Mechanicsburg High School as part of the class of 1953 and from Antioch College in 1958.  After years of faithful service, Flora retired in 2005 from the Social Security Administration’s Office of Research, Statistics, and Policy Analysis where she was a research statistician.  She was a long-time member of Temple Beth Shalom of Greater Harrisburg in Mechanicsburg.  Flora was an incredibly caring person who always placed the interests and feelings of others before her own.  She felt the pain of the downtrodden and forgotten members of our society and throughout her life; Flora remained active in human rights affairs.  She was a faithful and loving daughter and sister who was both clever, witty, and always fun to be around.

All are welcome to join Flora’s family at service on Thursday, November 2, 2017, at 2:30 p.m. at Myers - Buhrig Funeral Home and Crematory, 37 East Main Street, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055; with Rabbi Carl S. Choper.  Burial will immediately follow in Temple Beth Shalom Cemetery in Mechanicsburg.  Flora’s family invites everyone to join them for a reception at Snapper’s Bar and Grill in Mechanicsburg following the burial.

Henry Fry will be sitting Shiva in the residence library on the second floor of the Jewish Home of Greater Harrisburg from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. for the traditional seven days.

While Flora’s family is not accepting flowers, expressions of condolence can be made to The Religion and Society Center, 2973 Jefferson Street, Harrisburg, PA 17110.
