Francis “Bud” Steven Shenk II, age 38, of Moorhead, MN, and formerly of Shamokin, PA, passed away unexpectedly at Sanford Medical Center on Thursday, April 28, 2016. Bud was born on Wednesday, August 31, 1977, in Harrisburg, PA to Francis Steven Shenk and Cheryl Louise (Thompson) Shenk. Bud is preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Sarah A. (Barrick) Shenk and Francis L. Shenk; and his maternal grandparents, Helen I. (Brooker) Thompson and Raymond C. Thompson.
Bud’s survivors include his mother, Cheryl Louise Shenk of Lykens, PA; his father, Francis Steven Shenk and his wife, Carolyn, of Elliottsburg, PA; his two sisters: Mydia Smeltz and her significant other, Lannie of Newport, PA; Michelle Swarner and her husband, Terry, of Landisburg, PA, his five nephews; and many aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Bud graduated from Shamokin Area High School as part of the class of 1995 and from Northumberland Area Vo-Tech where he studied carpentry. He worked as a Walmart associate for many years, and most recently he was a crew member at Wendy’s. Bud was a good student who was easy-going, kind, and would gladly do things for people. He loved animals and music, especially heavy metal. Bud’s family remembers him as a great child who never got into any trouble and never had to be punished. His family missed Bud dearly while he lived in Minnesota for the past nine years and always wanted him to move back to Pennsylvania. Bud’s mother is thankful for the time spent together when she visited him last August, and she and his whole family will miss Bud very much.
All are welcome to join Bud’s family at his gathering of family and friends on Wednesday, May 4, 2016, from 11:00 a.m. until time of service at 12:00 p.m. at Myers - Buhrig Funeral Home and Crematory, 37 East Main Street, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055; with Pastor William Erney officiating. Burial will follow in Longsdorf Cemetery in Mechanicsburg. Bud’s family invites everyone to join them for a time of food and fellowship at New Kingstown Fire Company Banquet Hall, 277 North Locust Point Road, New Kingstown, PA 17072, following the burial.
The family respectfully asks that contributions be made in Bud’s memory to help defray his final expenses.
