Frank Wilson Sheets, age 99, of Mechanicsburg, passed away peacefully on December 24, 2016, in the cherished company of his surrogate grandchildren. Frank was born on Sunday, September 16, 1917 in New Kingstown, PA to the late James H. Sheets and Bertha (Shearer) Sheets. Frank was the widower of Leona Ruth Sheets who died on February 21, 1998. In addition to his parents and beloved wife of over 50 years, Frank is preceded in death by three brothers: Charlie, Harry, and James.
Frank is survived by his surrogate grandson, Douglas Calaman and his wife, Karen, and his great granddaughter Elisabeth Leona, all of Lewiston, NY; his surrogate granddaughter, Joanne Hoffman of Carbondale, PA; nieces, great nieces and nephews; and great great nieces and nephews.
Frank was a veteran of the United States Army 17th Airborne Division and proudly served his country during World War II in the European Theatre.
All are welcome to join Frank’s family at his gathering of family and friends on Friday, December 30, 2016, from 12:30 p.m. until time of service at 1:00 p.m. at Myers - Buhrig Funeral Home and Crematory, 37 East Main Street, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055; with Douglas P. Calaman officiating. Interment will immediately follow in Mt. Zion Cemetery in Churchtown, PA, where military honors will be presented by the Cumberland County Honor Guard. Cremation was private. Frank’s family invites everyone to join them for a time of reception and remembrance following the interment.
