Wonderful Wife -
Genevieve “Gen” (Wimer) Yohn, age 90, of New Kingstown , died at Church of God Home with her husband by her side on Friday, January 23, 2015. Gen was born on Monday, March 24, 1924 in Bluegrass, VA to the late William Sterrett Wimer and Fannie (Newlen) Wimer. In addition to her parents, Gen is preceded in death by her four brothers: Russell Wimer, Murrell Wimer, Robert Wimer, Frank Wimer; and her eight sisters: Virginia Green, Maude Davenport, Frances Wimer, Dorothy Gordon, Alcie Dick, Myrtle Wimer, Estella Wimer, Annie Wimer.
Gen’s survivors include her loving husband of 68 years, Harry “Hen” A. Yohn; and her nieces and nephews: Arleta, Bernice, Richard, Robert, Dwight, Marianna, Glenn, Jesse, Harvey, Ervett, Shirley, Mary, Ray, Nancy, Virginia, Linda, and Karen.
Gen was a long-time member of St. Stephen Lutheran Church in New Kingstown. In fact, Gen and her husband, Hen, met each other at the age of 16 when Gen caught Hen’s eye as she was entering through the church door for Sunday school. Hen beams as he remembers his bride as a “wonderful wife” who was always beautiful, especially in pink. She was a good cook and she loved to bake for both the church and the fire company and she attended every sandlot baseball game of her husband’s. She will be dearly missed.
All are welcome to join Gen’s family at her viewing on Wednesday, January 28, 2015, from 11:00 a.m. until time of service at 12:00 p.m. at St. Stephen Lutheran Church , 30 West Main Street, New Kingstown, PA 17072; with Pastor Caitlin Glass officiating. Gen’s family invites everyone to join them for a time of food and fellowship at her church immediately following the service. A private family burial in Longsdorf Cemetery will follow the reception. Honored to be pallbearers are: William M. Palm, Andrew Souder, Lee Souder, Richard Wimer, Earl E. Yohn, and Marlin Yohn, Sr.
