Hard-Working and Strong-Willed -

George I. Amsbaugh, age 79, of Mechanicsburg, PA, passed away peacefully with his family by his side at home on Sunday, May 1, 2016.  George was born on Sunday, March 28, 1937, in Etters, PA, to the late Clair R. Amsbaugh and Margaret E. (Hinkle) Amsbaugh.  In addition to his parents, George is preceded in death by his daughter, Connie L. (Bell) Smith; his granddaughter, Athena M. (Smith) Wolfe;  his four brothers: Clair Amsbaugh, Jr., John Amsbaugh, Norman Haas, Richard Amsbaugh; and his sister, Emma (Haas) Cornman.

George’s survivors include his loving wife of 51 years, Sandra “Sandy” Elaine (Short) Amsbaugh; his six children: Michael G. Amsbaugh and his wife, Kristine, of Mechanicsburg, Jeffrey S. Amsbaugh and his wife, Joanna, of Enola, George I. Bell and his wife, Gladys, of Glen Allen, VA, Shirlene M. Miller and her husband, David, of Mechanicsburg, Lynda G. Paulus and her husband, Allen, of Sorrento, LA, Susan M. Clemens and her husband, Charles, of Harrisburg; his 13 grandchildren; his 15 great-grandchildren; his five siblings: Garry Amsbaugh and his wife, Sharon, of York Haven, PA, Henrietta Slaseman of York Haven, Elizabeth Sanger and her husband, Frank, of Etters, Patricia J. Harbold of York Haven, Kathryn L. Millard and her husband, Jack, of Etters; and several nieces and nephews.

George retired from Master Mix Feeds in 1995, after many years of service working in building maintenance.  George was a member of Mt. Pleasant Church of God in Dillsburg since 1990, where he served on the church council twice and took collection every Sunday.  He was a former member of the Mechanicsburg Club.  George liked any outdoor activities, especially hunting, fishing, and camping.  He loved to cut wood and was a master carpenter.  George was known for his bear hugs and will be remembered for his devilish laugh and strong will.

All are welcome to join George’s family at his gathering of family and friends on Saturday, May 7, 2016, from 10:00 a.m. until time of service at 11:00 a.m. at Mt. Pleasant Church of God, 146 South York Road, Dillsburg, PA 17019.  George’s family invites everyone to join them for a time of food and fellowship at his church following the memorial service.
