George Stewart Dorward, age 71, of Mechanicsburg , died at West Shore Hospital on Tuesday, May 27, 2014. George was born on Monday, January 11, 1943 in Slatington to the late George Clinton Dorward and Elizabeth Charlotte (Stewart) Dorward. George was the husband of Carolyn Elizabeth (George) Dorward whom he married on January 18, 1964. In addition to his parents, George is preceded in death by his brother Clifford Dorward.
George’s survivors include his wife, Carolyn of 50 years; his son, Mark George Dorward and his wife Darinda of Lemoyne; his grandchildren, Mackenzie Alaina Dorward and Tanner Payton Dorward; his nephews, James Hartman, John Hartman and Trevor Miller; and his sister-in-law, MaryRose Dorward.
George graduated from Slatington High School as part of the class of 1960 and from Temple University in 1966 with an associate’s degree. He retired from Dupont in Camp Hill, after 27 years of service working as a manager of research and development. After retirement, he was employed at Kerry’s Lawn & Garden , DriveKore, Inc ., Keystone Petroleum , Sandleman Associates , & was currently an employee of Wegmans in Mechanicsburg. George was a member of Silver Spring Presbyterian Church in Mechanicsburg and also a member of the West Shore Lodge # 681 F& AM in Camp Hill. George loved attending anything his grandchildren participated in. He loved swimming with them, helping with school projects, making waffles and pancakes. George enjoyed woodworking, rug hooking, fly fishing, camping, traveling and anything outdoors. He loved his golden retrievers and his grand dogs. George was a volunteer at Members First . He was always a person to make people laugh with a good story or a joke.
All are welcome to join George’s family at his viewing on Tuesday, June 3, 2014, from 10:00 a.m. until time of service at 11:30 a.m. at Silver Spring Presbyterian Church , 444 Silver Spring Road, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055; with Reverend Bebb Stone officiating. Burial will follow in Rolling Green Memorial Park in Camp Hill, where military honors will be presented by the Cumberland County Honor Guard . George’s family invites everyone to join them for a time of food and fellowship at his church.
