George Thomas Fahnestock

George Thomas Fahnestock, age 73, of Dillsburg, died on Thursday, September 28, 2023.  George was born on Thursday, August 31, 1950, in Carlisle to the late George Fahnestock and Izora Fern (Scott) Hoerner.  George was the widower of Barbara “Barbie” Jean (Young) Fahnestock, whom he married on March 18, 1984, and who died on June 1, 2019.  In addition to his parents and wife, George is preceded in death by his sister, Connie Lee Fahnestock, and his mother-in-law, Ruth Ann (Lenker) Young.

George’s survivors include his father-in-law, Clyde “Pappy” Richard Young of Dillsburg; his brother-in-law, Clyde Oliver Young and his wife, Tania, of Dillsburg; his nephew, Travis Tyler Young and his wife, Tashia, of Manchester; his niece, Ashley Renee (Young) Wentz and her husband, Justin, of Lewisberry; and his dear friend, Florence “Bunny” Allen and her husband, Ronald, of Lewisberry.

George graduated from Cumberland Valley High School.  He was a proud veteran of the Army, where he served for three years.  George retired from the New Cumberland Army Depot in Fairview, PA after years of service working as a forklift operator.  He was an avid bowler, and won many trophies in recognition of his skill.  George was talented at claw machine games, and always had to win a prize when he passed them.  He was an outdoorsman, and had a passion for fishing and hunting.  George loved travelling with his beloved wife, Barb, and went to Williamsburg every year for their anniversary.  He will be dearly missed.

All are welcome to join George’s family at his viewing on Friday, October 6, 2023, from 12:00 p.m. until time of service at 1:30 p.m. at Buhrig Funeral & Cremation, 37 East Main Street, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055; with Celebrant George Spangler officiating.  George’s family invites everyone to join them for a time of food and fellowship at Buhrig’s Gathering Place (next to the funeral home) immediately following the service.  Burial will take place on Monday, October 16, 2023 at 2:30 p.m.  at Emanuel Cemetery in Lewisberry, where military honors will be presented.  Cremation was private.
