George Wilbur King, Jr., 90, of Carlisle , and formerly of Mechanicsburg , died at Claremont Nursing & Rehabilitation Center on Wednesday, August 1, 2012. He was born in Harrisburg, on Saturday, January 14, 1922, son of the late George W. King, Sr., and Marie (Rheal) King. George was the widower of Mary E. King, whom he married on August 6, 1940.
George graduated from William Penn High School as part of the class of 1940. He retired from Conrail as an engineer. George was a member of Faith United Church of Christ in New Cumberland and a volunteer at Camp Curtin Fire Company in Harrisburg. He was a US Navy WW II veteran. George loved to tap dance and to play the organ, and he greatly enjoyed the game of Triominos. He tinkered around the house a lot and was known to be constantly adjusting the thermostat.
George’s survivors include his loving daughter Judith Wolfe of Carlisle; eleven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Among those preceding George in death are three sons, George R., James R. and William E. King.
All are welcome to join George’s family at his viewing on Friday, August 3, 2012, from 12:30 to 1:30 at Myers-Buhrig Funeral Home & Crematory , 37 East Main Street, Mechanicsburg. A graveside service will follow at 2:00 at Rolling Green Memorial Park , 1811 Carlisle Road, Camp Hill, PA, with Reverend Denise Clark-Jones officiating. Military honors will be presented by the Cumberland County Honor Guard .
