George Henry Plummer

Woodworking & Scouting -

George Henry Plummer, age 68, of Carlisle, and formerly of Claysburg, passed away at the Lebanon VA Medical Center on Saturday, October 8, 2016.  George was born on Tuesday, December 2, 1947 in Claysburg to the late George Lawrence Plummer and Pearl Jane (Daugherty) Plummer.  In addition to his parents, George is preceded in death by his two brothers and two sisters and his best friend and canine companion, “Shadow”, who crossed the rainbow bridge in 2004.

George’s survivors include his loving and faithful wife of 40 years, Lorraine “Ranie” Ann (Disney) Plummer; his son, Timothy Disney; his four daughters: Vicki Lee Guydish, Donna Hamann, Gayle Marie Smith, Lori Jean Farver; his 13 grandchildren; his great granddaughter; numerous nieces and nephews; and his rat terrier, “Squirt”.

George was a U.S. Navy Veteran who served during the Vietnam era and he was a life member of the American Legion.  George worked for ARA as a government contractor although not even his family knew what he actually did at work.  George was very connected to scouting and he served as a Cub Scout Master for many years.  He had a deep love of woodworking and he completely enjoyed making things for his family and friends in the workshop he built himself.  Fishing, camping, gardening, yard work, and motorcycling on his Gold Wing were some of his favorite past times.  He was especially proud of his tomato “trees”, his roses, and his azalea bushes.  Early in the morning, George would slip out to his porch with his cup of coffee in hand, sit quietly, and enjoy the stillness and bird’s song.  His presence will surely be missed.

All are welcome to join George’s family at his gathering of family and friends on Monday, October 17, 2016, from 12:00 p.m. until time of service at 1:15 p.m. at Myers - Buhrig Funeral Home and Crematory, 37 East Main Street, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055; with Celebrant George A. Spangler officiating.  George’s family invites everyone to join them for a time of food and fellowship at the family home immediately following the service.  Interment will occur at a later date in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery in Annville, where military honors will be presented.  Cremation was private.

Contributions in celebration of George’s life can be made to American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 897, Hershey, PA  17033.

George’s family has entrusted his care to Myers – Buhrig Funeral Home and Crematory in Mechanicsburg, (717) 766-3421.  Read George’s full obituary, view his memorial video and portrait, and sign his official guest book at www.Buhrig.com .
