George Richard Waggoner, age 75, of Kearneysville, WV , and formerly of Elizabethtown , died at Hershey Medical Center on Tuesday, October 28, 2014. George was born on Sunday, November 27, 1938 in Mechanicsburg to the late Robert Scott Waggoner and Ethel Mae (Duncan) Waggoner. In addition to his parents, George is preceded in death by his companion of 30 years, Martha Borrell; his sisters: Mary Wert and Esther Rupp; his brothers: Robert Waggoner, Jr., Charles Waggoner, John Waggoner, and W. Paul Waggoner.
George’s survivors include his son, George Timothy “Tim” Waggoner and his wife, Cynthia (Osborne) Waggoner, of Kearneysville, WV; his grandchildren: Jessica Waggoner, Justin Waggoner, Joshua Waggoner, Stacy Graff; his great-grandchildren: Ryleigh Waggoner, Kaylee Norris, A.J. Norris, Chloe Norris, David Graff, Jr., Ava Graff; his sisters: Martha Hollenbaugh of Carlisle, Grace Knaub and her husband, Charles, of Dillsburg; his former wife and Tim’s mother, Mary (Anspach) Waggoner Herrider, of Dillsburg; and several nieces and nephews.
George graduated from Mechanicsburg High School as part of the class of 1957, and he served in the U.S. Army Reserve . George retired from the U.S. Postal Service in Elizabethtown, after many years working as a rural route carrier. He loved to spend time in his garden, especially caring for the flowers and watching the deer. George is remembered fondly by his family as a joker with a great sense of humor.
All are welcome to join George’s family at his gathering of family and friends on Saturday, November 8, 2014 from 10:00 a.m. until time of service at 11:00 a.m. at Myers - Buhrig Funeral Home and Crematory , 37 East Main Street, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055; with Pastor George Spangler officiating. Burial will follow in St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church Cemetery in Enola. Honored to be pallbearers are: Jessica Waggoner, Justin Waggoner, Joshua Waggoner, Josh Arrington, Harold Demmings, Anthony Norris, John Waltz, and Rodney Knaub.
The family suggests memorial contributions to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
