Gerald Jerome Reber
Gerald Jerome Reber, age 85, of Carlisle, died at Claremont Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Carlisle, on Sunday, March 30, 2014. Born in Temple, PA, on Friday, June 15, 1928, he was the son of the late Elmer Reber and Anna (Hoffman) Reber.
Gerald’s survivors include his son, Gerald Reber and his wife Wendy and their son Nicholas of St. George, UT; his two daughters, Susan Sheipe and her husband Scott and their son Christopher of Newville, PA, and Debra Soprano and her husband Anthony and their son Justin and their daughter Courtney of Colorado Springs, CO; his two brothers, Gene Reber of Elmendorf, TX, and Lee Reber of Reading, PA; and many nieces and nephews.
Among those preceding Gerald in death are his three sisters, Dorothy Schmeck, Miriam Schmeck, and Janet Dengler; and his grandson, Aaron Reber.
Gerald served in the Army from 1949 to 1970. He was stationed in Germany, Korea, California, Ethiopia, Vietnam, Kansas, and New Jersey, before retiring as a Master Sergeant in Carlisle, PA. After Retiring, he owned a TV repair shop and worked with his then-wife in her ceramic shop. He later was a letter carrier for the Carlisle Post Office before working at the Harrisburg Post Office repairing machinery. Gerald enjoyed travelling, having visited Canada, China, Australia, Europe, Egypt, and had been in all but two or three of the 50 United States. He also enjoyed reading and playing on his computer.
At Gerald’s request, he was cremated and will be scattered with no funeral or memorial services. Gerald’s family has entrusted his care to Myers–Buhrig Funeral Home and Crematory in Mechanicsburg, (717) 766-3421.
