Gerard “Jerry” Eugene Rice

Always Had a Smile Ready -

Gerard “Jerry” Eugene Rice, age 77, of Mechanicsburg, passed away at home with his daughter by his side on Wednesday, June 29, 2016.  Jerry was born on Wednesday, December 14, 1938 in Lancaster to the late George Rice and Claire (Schleger) Rice.  Jerry was the widower of Dorothy E. (Conway) Rice, to whom he was married for over 35 years, and who died on July 10, 2010.

Jerry’s survivors include his four children: Kim Valorie (Campbell) Tarrant of Mechanicsburg, Greg Rice and his wife, Karen, of Mountville, Gina Miller and her husband, Jimmy, of Florida, Jerri Lynn Campbell of Virginia Beach; his eight grandchildren: Dennis, Valorie, Kevin, Marissa, Mason, Austin, Karlee; and his four great-grandchildren: Camden, Emma, Blake, Mason.

Jerry retired from the Mechanicsburg Navy Depot, after 31 years of service.  He was an intelligent man who had a steel trap memory.  Jerry was a trickster who was very funny and a class act that always had a smile ready.  He was kind and would do anything for anyone.  Jerry liked to journal and was an extremely methodical man.  He was a talker who liked to get people going.  Jerry liked maraschino cherries and trying different types of beer; he had a love of chocolate ice cream that he would even hide it from his grandchildren in a coffee mug.  Jerry loved listening to Elvis Presley, watching old movies and TV shows, and watching his favorite character, Kramer, on Seinfeld.  He was like a father to his grandchildren and will be deeply missed by all of his family.

All are welcome to join Jerry’s family at his viewing on Tuesday, July 5, 2016, from 2:00 p.m. until time of service at 4:00 p.m. at Myers - Buhrig Funeral Home and Crematory, 37 East Main Street, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055; with Celebrant Tracy Conner officiating.  Jerry’s family invites everyone to join them for a time of food and fellowship at Hoss’s Steak and Sea House in Mechanicsburg following the service.
