Gertrude “Gertie” Marie (Lowe) Stoner

Gertrude “Gertie” Marie (Lowe) Stoner, age 88, of Carlisle, passed away on Friday, February 10, 2017 at Claremont Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, following a courageous battle with dementia.  Gertie was born on Saturday, February 2, 1929, in Shermans Dale in Perry County to the late Daniel D. Lowe, Sr. and Mary E. (Kugler) Lowe.  She was the widow of Cletus R. Stoner who died on January 4, 1980.  In addition to her parents and husband, Gertie is preceded in death by her four brothers: Edward Lowe, Walter L. Lowe, Stiles W. Lowe, Daniel D. Lowe, Jr.; and her sister, Mary Bostwick.

Gertie’s survivors include her only child, Donald L. Stoner, Sr., husband of Patricia L., of Carlisle; her three grandchildren: Donald L. Stoner, Jr., Christine A. Wynn, Sarah Smith; and her two sister’s-in-law: Katherine Stoner and Rete Stone.  She celebrates six great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Gertie retired from Capital Products, Inc.  She enjoyed the outdoors, gardening, television game shows, playing bingo, and traveling.  She was a member of the Cumberland County Society of Farm Women, Group #6, serving as their treasurer for many years.  Gertie’s family and friends all loved and respected her as a strong Christian woman.  She was an independent woman who loved her family and friends.  The quality of her character and the joy with which she lived her life were her greatest gifts to the people she loved.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend Gertie’s viewing on Wednesday, February 15, 2017, from 10:15 a.m. until time of Celebration of Life Funeral Service at 11:00 a.m. at Myers - Buhrig Funeral Home and Crematory, 37 East Main Street, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055; with Celebrant George A. Spangler officiating.  Burial will follow in Longsdorf Cemetery in Mechanicsburg with a time of food and fellowship at West Main Family Restaurant, 710 West Main Street, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055, to immediately follow the burial.

The family thanks all of the medical personnel, nurses, doctors, aids, and staff at Claremont Nursing & Rehabilitation Center for their wonderful care in making Gertie’s life comfortable.  Contributions in celebration of Gertie’s life may be made to Claremont Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, 1000 Claremont Road, Carlisle, PA 17013.
