Gladys Marie (Hair) Shughart, age 87, of Boiling Springs , died at Manor Care – Carlisle on Thursday, April 24, 2014. Born in Mechanicsburg, on Friday, February 18, 1927, she was the daughter of the late John Russell Hair and Mary (Stough) Hair. Gladys was the widow of Willis “Ike” R. Shughart whom she married on June 11, 1944 and who died on June 22, 1985.
Gladys’s survivors include children, Kenneth Shughart of Carlisle, Ronald Shughart of Carlisle, Gary Shughart of Mechanicsburg, Donald Shughart of Carlisle, Diane Soprano of Dillsburg; her grandchildren, Teresa Sampson, Bradley Shughart, Andrew Shughart, Rebecca Detra, Tanaya Ginsberg, Stephanie Hammond, Mark Shughart, Amanda Moyer, Laura Shughart, Rachel Shughart, Alyssa Shughart, Joanna Shughart, Angela Verdekal, and Tabitha Hayden; her 17 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Among those preceding Gladys in death are her brothers, Lester Hair, Lloyd Hair, Harold Hair, and Mearl Hair.
Gladys worked alongside her husband “Ike” on their dairy farm for almost 40 years. She was a member of Churchtown Church of God where she sang in the choir. She taught Sunday school in her earlier years at Shepherdstown E.U. B. Church in Mechanicsburg. Gladys made the best peanut butter fudge every year at Christmas. She was a compassionate woman who would do anything to help anybody at anytime. Gladys enjoyed playing bingo and attending church services at Manor Care. She especially loved and adored her grandchildren.
All are welcome to join Gladys’s family at her viewing on Tuesday, April 29, 2014, from 10:00 a.m. until time of service at 11:00 a.m. at Myers - Buhrig Funeral Home and Crematory , 37 East Main Street, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055; with Pastor Brian D. Warner officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Zion Cemetery in Churchtown.
