Gladys “Dolly” Mary Owens

Gladys “Dolly” Mary Owens, 81, of Mechanicsburg, died Saturday, November 12, 2011 at Harrisburg Hospital. She was born on Wednesday, September 10, 1930, in New Oxford the daughter of the late Raymond and Sadie B. (Myers) Peterman. Gladys was the widow of Joseph Owens to whom she was married for 37 years.
Gladys retired from Hills Department Store in Camp Hill and was a school crossing guard for 34 years with Mechanicsburg School District. Gladys was a member of Christian Life Assembly Church. Gladys’ life revolved around her family and her grandchildren meant the world to her. She would take extra hats and gloves with her on her crossing guard duties so that all the children were properly dressed for the cold weather.
Gladys’ survivors include four daughters: Phyllis Henneman and husband Gerald of Carlisle; Rosemarie Colban of Mechanicsburg; Carmella Colban of Mechanicsburg; Holly Owens of Middletown; a step-son: Joseph Owens and wife Cleo of Middletown; nine grandchildren: Kama Nicholls; Penni DeHart; Cara Colban; Zachary Garman; Anthony Ferrari; Laci Owens-Myers; Rachel Owens; Joey Owens; Bryan Henneman; three great-grandchildren; close family friend Bev Martinez and her grand pups: Boo & Punkin.
In addition to her parents, Gladys was preceded in death by a son: Charles Bretzman.
All are welcome to join Gladys’ family at her viewing on Wednesday, November 16, 2011, from 6:00 to 8:00 and on Thursday, November 17, 2011, from 9:00 until the time of service at 10:00 at
