A Gentleman’s Gentleman -

Glenn James Huffer, age 74, of Mechanicsburg, passed away peacefully and with his loving family by his side at Carolyn’s House of HCP on Sunday, March 25, 2018, after a long battle with a rare type of cancer, exoskeletal myxoid chrondosomes sarcoma.  Glenn was born on Friday, November 26, 1943 in Harrisburg to the late Clarence James Huffer and Romayne Louise (Stazewsky) Huffer.  In addition to his parents, Glenn is preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Charles and Helen Stazewsky; and his aunt, Juanita “Skip” Huffer.

Glenn’s survivors include his loving and devoted wife of 55 years, Carol Ann (Rupp) Huffer; his three children: Gwendolyn “Gwen” Mitchell and her husband, Rick, of McAllisterville, Christopher “Chris” Huffer and his wife, Traci, of Mechanicsburg, Amanda Carbaugh and her husband, Timothy, of Enola; his seven grandchildren: Danielle Kiker and her husband, Matthew, of Mechanicsburg, Ky Carbaugh of Enola, Nicole Huffer of Mechanicsburg, Abby Carbaugh and her fiancé, James Edrington, Sr. , of New Cumberland, Michelle Huffer of Mechanicsburg, Noah Carbaugh of Enola, Maddie Carbaugh of Enola; his seven great-grandchildren: Macy Kiker, Matthew Conrad, Maggie Kiker, Carter Carbaugh, James Edrington, Jr., Ryan Edrington, Jackson Edrington; his two sisters: Linda Erb and her husband, Bob, of Charleston, SC, Janet Talton and her husband, Bill, of Dillsburg; and several nieces and nephews.

Glenn graduated from Mechanicsburg High School as part of the class of 1961.  He retired from logistics operations after 37 years of service at the Naval Supply Systems Command (NAVSUP) in Mechanicsburg.  Glenn began his working life in 1963 at the Veteran’s Hospital in Lebanon as a nursing assistant and then became a dental assistant.  He also worked part time at Roth Butcher Shop in Shiremanstown from 1962 until the 1980s.  From 1975 until 1980, Glenn worked at the New Cumberland Army Depot as a supply clerk and then as a purchasing agent.  In 1981, he transferred to the Navy Ships Parts Controls Center where he worked until his retirement in 2000.  Over the years Glenn served as a supply management specialist, a supply systems analyst, a supervisory supply management specialist, and he worked in logistics operations.  Glenn did not stop working in retirement, he became a proud and dedicated member of the Myers – Buhrig Funeral Home and Crematory Team where he was loved and valued.

Glenn was a longtime member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Shiremanstown.  He was quite the history buff and enjoyed spending time reading about the subject.  Glenn liked to golf; which he began playing with his coworkers and then with his wife.  He traveled the world for his job and visited such places as Saudi Arabia, Japan, and Guam.  Glenn and his wife, Carol, were blessed to have visited 45 of the 50 United States.  A tireless worker, Glenn never lost sight of what was truly important in life, family.  He was a dedicated family man who loved spending time with those he loved.  Glenn was fiercely proud of his grandchildren and great-children.  Even through his illness he made a point to attend their events.  Glenn had a kind and caring spirit that will be missed by all who were lucky enough to have known him.

All are welcome to join Glenn’s family at his gathering of family and friends with food and fellowship on Sunday, April 15, 2018, from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. with a time of remembrance and storytelling to begin at 5:00 p.m. at the Community Center, 201 East Green Street, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055; with Celebrant George A. Spangler officiating.  Cremation was private.
