Gloria Jean (Burkhart) Jones
Devoted Wife and Mother -
Gloria Jean (Burkhart) Jones, age 92, of Mechanicsburg, and formerly of Lancaster, was reunited with her husband and son on Monday, October 14, 2019. Gloria was born on Sunday, January 23, 1927 in Lancaster to the late Samuel Groff Burkhart and Elizabeth Grace (Somerfield) Burkhart. Gloria was the widow of Charles Edward “Tremendous” Jones, whom she married on January 29, 1948, and who died on October 16, 2008. In addition to her parents and husband, Gloria is preceded in death by her son, Jere James Jones on September 13, 2015.
Gloria’s survivors include her five children: Pamela “Pam” Velencia and her husband, Paul, of Harrisburg, Candace “Candy” Crawford and her husband, Barry, of Mechanicsburg, Jeffrey Jones and his wife, Michele, of Schroon Lake, NY, Tracey Jones and her fiancée, Michael Wheeler, of Boiling Springs, Jamie Jones Morris, of Mechanicsburg; her seven grandchildren; her five great-grandchildren; her one great-great grandchild; her one sister, Nancy Martin, of Lititz; several nieces and nephews; and her beloved cats: Rue and Mickey.
Gloria graduated from J.P McCaskey High School as part of the class of 1945. She was a devoted wife and mother who loved being a homemaker and an anchor to her husband. She generously gave of her time to anyone in need, spiritually and emotionally. Gloria was always there for everyone, especially her beloved family. She was a lifelong member of New Life Church in New Cumberland and a Godly woman, who lived her faith. Gloria was well known as a prayer warrior and an ardent witness for Christ. Her thoughts and prayers were always focused on the needs of others. Gloria was loved by everyone because of her simple, sweet and humble personality. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
All are welcome to join Gloria’s family at her gathering on Monday, October 21, 2019, from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service at 11:30 a.m. at New Life Church, 530 Big Spring Road, New Cumberland; with Pastor Ronnie Riggins officiating. Gloria’s family invites everyone to join them for a time of food and fellowship at her church immediately following the service. Entombment will be private in Rolling Green Cemetery in Camp Hill. Honored to be pallbearers are: Rob Durham, Sam Jones, Bailey Morris, Chris Smee, Paul Velencia, and Mike Wheeler.
