Gloria J. Noss

Proverbs 31:28 “Her children rise and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her.”

Gloria J. Noss , beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and faithful servant of our Lord Jesus, went home to Heaven on Friday, April 28, 2023.  She was born on October 8, 1934.  Gloria married her high-school sweetheart, Oren Noss on December 24, 1953.  Throughout their 70-year marriage, Gloria lived Proverbs 31; although she would tell you she did not deserve the praises.  Gloria was pre-deceased by her parents, Paul and Nellie Logan, and by her beloved son-in-love, John Vogelsong.  She was devoted to her family which includes three children, Paula Vogelsong, David Noss (Jody), and Patricia Noss.  She was blessed with 8 grandchildren:  Kimberly Ginter (Jeffrey), Allison Kennedy (Michael), Elizabeth Vogelsong (Brighid Marquess), Emily Fisher (Ralph, III), Stephanie Ebersole (Kyle), Megan Foose (Fred), Heather Kierstead (Jesse), Brandon Newton (Rachel Berkebile) and 19 great-grandchildren. Her arms were always open for extended family who call her “Mom”--Tom Bowman, and Barbie, Todd and Joshua Feger.

Gloria’s life has been focused on being an example for Jesus in everything she did—whether it was doing mounds of laundry to help people affected by Hurricane Agnes flooding, or preparing meals and hosting missionaries home on furlough, or simply baking cupcakes (with icing) or frying up fish caught by the neighborhood children.  All those touched by her selfless service knew love was the heart of her home.

She served her church faithfully as a Sunday School teacher, with Women’s Ministries, singing in the choir, and currently as a sender of cards for all occasions. There are so many who have been blessed by her ministry.

Gloria loved children and spent 25 years serving in the office of Child Evangelism Fellowship of Cumberland County.  She held Good News Clubs in her home and in the homes of other people and in churches, sharing the message that Jesus loves all the children.  One of her fondest memories was being pointed out on the streets of Mechanicsburg by a little boy who exclaimed, “Mom! There’s the Good News lady!”

She transitioned from Child Evangelism Fellowship to become the administrative assistant at Emmanuel United Methodist Church in Enola.  She has served in that capacity until her retirement after 33 years in April of this year.  She was noted to quip, in fun (and with humility) that she helped train 7 pastors over the course of her time in the church office.  She was so very grateful to serve in any capacity as needed there.

Gloria has expressed the desire that we remember her as a faithful servant who was ready to be at home with her Lord.  She has “fought the fight and won the race set before her…” Therefore, do not mourn.  Celebrate her life and seek to follow Jesus, not for her sake, but for yours.

The family asks that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to her church, Bowmansdale Church of God, 101 East Lisburn Road, Bowmansdale, PA 17055, to Child Evangelism Fellowship of Cumberland County, 150 Fairview Drive, Carlisle, PA 17013, or to Boys Town, USA, 141000 Crawford Street, Boys Town, NE 68010.

A celebration service will be held at Bowmansdale Church of God, 101 East Lisburn Road, Bowmansdale, PA 17055, on Friday, May 5, 2023.  Visitation will be held from 9:30 – 11:30 am with worship service beginning at 11:45 am.   A luncheon will be held immediately following the service.  Interment will be at Rolling Green Memorial Cemetery.
