Gordon “Gordie” Lee Brandt, age 68, of New Cumberland, and formerly of Camp Hill, passed away peacefully at his home on Sunday, July 21, 2019.  Gordie was born on Saturday, May 5, 1951, in Altoona to the late William Joseph Brandt and Mina Louise (Rudasill) Brandt.  In addition to his parents, Gordie is preceded in death by his three siblings, Milton Brandt, Albert Brandt and Josephine “Josi” Martinez.

Gordie’s survivors include his five siblings: Charles “Charlie” William Brandt and his wife, Suzanne “Susie”, of Carlisle, Agnes “Marie” Lively of Topeka, KS, Samuel Tilden Brandt and his wife, Frances “Fran”, of Port Murray, NJ; Mina Sue Brandt of Mechanicsburg and her daughter, Wendy Watts of York Springs; Daniel Walter Brandt and his wife, Joy, of Montclair, NJ; and his several nieces and nephews.

Gordie graduated from Cedar Cliff High School as part of the class of 1969.  He proudly served in the United States Air Force.  Gordie was employed at the New Cumberland Army Depot for 31 years as a forklift operator and for a number of years, worked at Bethlehem Steel.  He attended St. Theresa Parish in New Cumberland.  Gordie was a member of Narcotics Anonymous and has been sober for more than 30 years.  He was eager to help others rise above their addictions.  He loved tinkering on cars, riding motorcycles and often enjoyed shooting a game of pool with friends.  Gordon felt his greatest contribution was helping to raise his three loving nieces: Holly, Julie, and Brandi Martinez.  His love for them allowed him to keep going and gave him a reason to live.  He will be missed greatly by his family and friends.

All are welcome to join Gordie’s family at his gathering of family and friends on Wednesday, July 31, 2019, from 4:30 p.m. until time of service at 5:30 p.m. at Buhrig Funeral Home and Crematory, 37 East Main Street, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055; with Celebrant George A. Spangler officiating.  Gordie’s family invites everyone to join them for a time of food and fellowship at the Mechanicsburg Church of the Brethren immediately following the service. Interment will be on Thursday, August 1, 2019 in Mechanicsburg Cemetery, where military honors will be presented by the Cumberland County Honor Guard.  Cremation was private.
