Grace Virginia (Yingling) Herron

Grace Virginia (Yingling) Herron, 92, of Mechanicsburg , and formerly of Roaring Springs , died at Carolyn Croxton Slane Hospice Residence on Wednesday, August 22, 2012.  She was born in Polo, IL, on Monday, June 28, 1920, daughter of the late Cyrus Gary Yingling and Maude Leanna (Nuss) Yingling.  Grace was the widow of Donald “Don” Ralph Herron whom she married on November 28, 1940 and who died on February 10, 1986.

Grace graduated from Roaring Spring High School as part of the class of 1938 after which she attended an interior design school in New York City .  Grace then became a buyer for Bloomingdale’s in 1940 and work there until 1942 when World War II called her to serve at the Navy Ship’s Parts Control Center in Mechanicsburg where she worked until her retirement in 1972.

Grace greatly enjoyed her travels camping, cruising and two cross-country trips with family and friends.  She loved Florida where she vacationed from 1972 until 2009.  Grace loved shopping, mostly for clothing, and would take every opportunity to indulge her passion.  She was very competitive with her husband when they were fishing, which she loved.  They enjoyed many hours fishing together and they are now together again, forever.

Grace’s survivors include her loving daughter-in-law, Barbara “Barb” Ann (Cunningham) Sheaffer and her husband Robert of Mechanicsburg; her three grandsons,  Steven Herron and his wife Carolyn of Virginia, Michael Herron and his wife Wanda of Mechanicsburg, Timothy Herron and his wife Diana of Mechanicsburg; her eight great grandchildren; and her three great great grandchildren.  Among those preceding Grace in death is her son, Paul Franklin Herron who died on October 10, 1973.

Invited guests are welcome to join Grace’s family at her private gathering of family and friends on Saturday, August 25, 2012, from 10:30 until time of service at 11:00 at Trindle Spring Cemetery , 14 State Road, Mechanicsburg, PA  17050, with Celebrant Alan Echard officiating.  Interment will immediately follow with a time of food and fellowship following the interment to be held at West Main Family Restaurant , 710 West Main Street, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055.  Cremation was private.
