Gretchen Arnett (Bogardus) Bills

An Amazing Wife, Mother, & Friend -

Gretchen Arnett (Bogardus) Bills, age 76, of Mechanicsburg, and formerly of Amarillo, TX, passed away while being comforted by her loving family on Saturday, July 1, 2017.  Gretchen was born on Sunday, September 15, 1940 in El Paso, TX to the late Fred William Bogardus, Sr. and Mary (Milam) Bogardus.

Gretchen’s survivors include her loving husband of 56 years, Robert Joe Bills; her two children: Lyndra J. Bills of Marysville, Robert M. Bills and his significant other, Kathleen Adams, of Greentown; her three siblings: Fred William Bogardus, Jr., of Minnesota, Carl Henry Bogardus of New Mexico, Jeannette McFarlin of Texas; her beloved dog, Annabelle; and several nieces and nephews.

Gretchen was an amazing wife, mother, and friend.  She could hold the world on her shoulders and you would never know anything about it.  Gretchen would do anything she could for anyone who asked and she never had a harsh word for anybody.  She loved her family and friends; they were of the utmost importance to her.  Gretchen was involved with the First Christian Church Mariner’s Class, the Peacemakers Quilt Club, the Quilt Mafia, and her Ya’s Group.  She and her husband, Robert, loved to play dominos with their friends.  Life was her canvas and it would be hard to capture all of her passions into just one paragraph.  She had a huge spirit, which was never deteriorated by her small size.  Gretchen was very proud of her kids and wanted everyone to know it.  She was a dedicated wife and always supported Robert through many tough times.  Gretchen loved animals, especially all of her doggies.  She found great comfort in her faith knowing that she would be joining Jesus Christ.  Gretchen wished for those who knew her to celebrate her life and each other; live life, love life.  She will be dearly missed.

Gretchen’s family is planning a memorial service for a later date.  Cremation was private.

Contributions in celebration of Gretchen’s life, and to honor her love of animals, can be made to any pet charity of the donor’s choosing.

Gretchen’s family has entrusted her care to Myers – Buhrig Funeral Home and Crematory in Mechanicsburg, (717) 766-3421.  Read Gretchen’s full obituary, view her memorial video, and sign her official guest book at Buhrig.com.
