Harold “Wolfie” Eugene Wolfe

Harold “Wolfie” Eugene Wolfe, age 91, of Carlisle, and formerly of Mechanicsburg, was reunited in heaven with his loving wife, Peggy, with his family by his side on Wednesday, May 17, 2017.  Harold was born on Thursday, June 11, 1925 in Mechanicsburg to the late Charles R. Wolfe and Lavina E. (Shover) Wolfe Quigley.  Harold was the widower of Peggy “Peg” Joan (Myers) Wolfe, whom he married on June 13, 1959, and who died on August 27, 2007.  In addition to his parents and wife, Harold is preceded in death by his two brothers: Paul Wolfe and William Wolfe.

Harold’s survivors include his three children: Melvin Wolfe and his wife, Eva, of Dillsburg, Debra Stoner of Carlisle, Bradford Wolfe and his wife, Kimberly, of Mechanicsburg; his 12 grandchildren: Melvin Jr., Melanie, Jennifer, Zachary, Ryan, Denise, Eric, Aaron, Cole, Amy, Mary Beth, Deanna; his ten great grandchildren; his brother, Charles Wolfe, Jr. and his wife, Dottie, of Shiremanstown; his sister, Helen May and her husband, William, of Mechanicsburg; his many nieces and nephews; and his dear friend and fellow World War II Combat Veteran, Cosmo Zizzi.

Harold was a proud World War II Combat Veteran who left high school to serve his country in the United States Navy.  He continued his service by working until his retirement at the Naval Ships Parts Control Center in Mechanicsburg.  A child of the depression, Harold returned home from combat to his father’s death which found him thrust into the role of “man of the house.”  Entering adulthood while facing so many challenges and tests of his fortitude forged him into a stern man who was driven by his passions.  He was a man of limited patience who fiercely defended his family from every threat.  His integrity and honesty were without reproach.  Through his life, the wild animals that came calmly to him were always able to sense his gentleness and kindness as they sat on his knees and ate from his hands.  It can be difficult to express and receive love but, especially in his later years, Harold grew to love more gently and to accept the love of others with grace.  He went to heaven while surrounded by the love of his family and friends.

All are welcome to join Harold’s family at his graveside for services on Tuesday, May 23, 2017, beginning at 2:00 p.m. at Mechanicsburg Cemetery, 137 West Marble Street, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055; with The Reverend Patrick F. Strohl officiating and where military honors will be presented by the Cumberland County Honor Guard.  Cremation was private.  Harold’s family invites everyone to join them for a time of food and fellowship at Hoss's Steak & Sea House 61 Gettysburg Pike, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055, following the services.
