Harold “Jonesy” Eugene Jones, 66, of Mechanicsburg , died at Hershey Medical Center on Friday, August 3, 2012. He was born in Mechanicsburg, on Saturday, August 18, 1945, son of the late Joseph Kenneth Jones and Gladys June (Myers) Jones. Harold was the husband of Darlene Kay (Walters) Jones whom he married on November 24, 1971.
Harold graduated from Mechanicsburg High School as part of the class of 1963, and attended Penn State University . He retired from IBM after 36 years of service working as an operations manager and programmer. Harold was a US Air Force Vietnam Veteran , and a lifetime member of the Mechanicsburg VFW # 6704 and NRA . He was also a member of the Mechanicsburg Club and Corvette Club . Harold was the best husband, father, grandfather and friend. He was a man who never met a stranger. Harold coached baseball and football and made sure everybody on the team played equally. He was a former commissioner of the LAYAA Youth Football League in Maryland. Harold loved the outdoors and four wheeling.
Harold’s survivors include his loving wife of 40 years, Darlene; four children, Angela Wilson of Harrisburg, Rebecca Grimes of Carlisle, Joseph Jones and his wife Meredith of Mechanicsburg, Leslie Jones of Mechanicsburg; nine grandchildren, Mackenzie, Miranda and Arthur Wilson, Cheyenne, Dakota and Chumani Grimes, Sierra, Benjamin and Kaitlyn Jones; a brother, John Jones and his wife Pauline of Mechanicsburg, a sister, Norma Saenz and her husband Edgar of NV; a sister-in-law, Shirley Jones of Carlisle, a sister-in-law, Debra Watts and her husband Butch of Newport; and several nieces and nephews. Among those preceding Harold in death are a brother, George Jones and a sister, Barbara Baron.
All are welcome to join Harold’s family at his Celebration of Life on Tuesday, August 7, 2012, from 6:00 to 8:00 at Myers–Buhrig Funeral Home and Crematory , 37 East Main Street, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055. Cremation will be private and at the convenience of the family.
