Harriet Louise (Baker) Kinard, 81, of Mechanicsburg , died peacefully at Golden Living Center on Tuesday, October 8, 2013.  She was born in Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania, on Wednesday, June 1, 1932, daughter of the late Harold Baker and Ethel (Sherman) Baker.  Harriet was the widow of Richard Charles Kinard whom she married on August 12, 1950 and who died on March 13, 1996.

Harriet’s survivors include her two loving children, Cheryl Ann Walker and her husband Kenneth of York Haven, Brian Douglass Kinard and his wife Christina of Harrisburg; her sister, Arlene Heintzelman of Mechanicsburg; and her four grandchildren, Brian Jr., Lindsey, Sarah, and Deseree.

Harriet graduated from Mechanicsburg High School as part of the class of 1950 and she attended Irving Women’s School of Business in Mechanicsburg.  She retired from Bell Telephone as a billing clerk after over 25 years of service.  Harriet loved spending time with her family at their river cabin on Beach Island in Goldsboro , which they owned for more than 40 years.  She greatly enjoyed being close to home and near to her family, especially on Christmas Eve.  Harriet was known for her beautiful counted cross-stitch pieces and she deeply loved animals.  She has a special place in her heart for Patty, a beautiful boxer, and Missy, her companion cat.

All are welcome to join Harriet’s family at her viewing on Monday, October 14, 2013, from 6:00 to 7:30 and on Tuesday, October 15, 2013, from 1:30 until time of service at 2:00 at Myers–Buhrig Funeral Home and Crematory , 37 East Main Street, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055, with Reverend Robin Reilly officiating.  Burial will follow in Chestnut Hill Cemetery in Mechanicsburg.  Honored to be pallbearers are: Jim Fickel, Jr., Steve Heintzelman, Brian Kinard, Jake Sunday, Nathan Sunday and Ken Walker.  Harriet’s family invites everyone to join them for a time of food and fellowship at Snapper’s Bar & Grill in Mechanicsburg following the burial.

The family suggests memorial contributions to the animal charity of the donor’s choice.
